Worthy Farm Reserve Cheddar is lovingly made using milk from the herd that grazes on the iconic Worthy Farm, home of the Glastonbury Festival. Aged under wood for six months, this cheddar offers a mature, smooth, and moreish flavour with a hint of sweetness, melting into a lasting creamy finish.
A Century in the Making: The Return of Worthy Farm Cheese
“About 100 years ago, my grandfather decided to make the milk at Worthy Farm into Caerphilly cheese. He secured a good price from the Welsh coal miners, bought the first lorry around here and delivered it once a week to the coal pits. This trade made him quite rich and powerful. But the general strike in 1926 ended all of that. He had to mortgage the farm and close the cheese production down. He converted his AC car (equivalent to the Aston Martin of today) into a horse drawn cart and called it a ‘Dofunny.’ This vehicle took the kids to school and went on weekly shopping trips to Glastonbury. Now 100 years later, after 50 years of recent festival history, Worthy Farm milk is being made into cheese again by Wyke and the finest reserve cheddar selected for Worthy Farm packs – what a comeback!”

Currently the packaging for Worthy Farm Reserve Cheddar cannot be recycled. We are working to find a 100% recyclable packaging solution as quickly as possible. It’s challenging in cheese as it needs a barrier film. Without barrier film then cheese spoilage and food waste increases which can be equally bad or even worse for the environment, so we are unable to take any risks.
However, there is a hugely important focus for us on recyclable barrier films and we are at the forefront and doing everything we can in the trial and development of options for cheese and butter. We have trialled multiple materials for cheese produced by several different manufacturers and whilst we’ve yet to find a solution, we are doing all that we can to drive the innovation needed to allow people to continue to enjoy Somerset Cheddar in a more sustainable way.

Yes – though you may notice a crumblier texture in the cheese, once thawed. Please allow your cheddar to thoroughly defrost in the fridge before unwrapping.

It is best to store your Worthy Cheddar in the cheese drawer compartment of your fridge, which is the warmest and moistest part. Worthy Farm Cheddar can be stored in its packaging. Once you have opened your cheese, we recommend wrapping it in a reusable beeswax wrap.
